Hairstylist's Academy Partners with Children's Aid Society

Durham Hairstylist Academy logo.

Durham Hairstylist Academy, in collaboration with Durham Children’s Aid Society (CAS), organized an educational evening at GL Roberts CVI for Black and Black-biracial youth, their families, and foster families on natural hair care. The initiative aimed to address the lack of Black and Black-biracial natural hair care in the child welfare system. The CAS Diversity Initiatives & Community Engagement Lead was in attendance and emphasized the importance of creating a safe learning space for foster parents and youth in care. The event featured instructor Mykael Jackman, who shared hair care skills, product recommendations, and nighttime regimes, receiving positive feedback from attendees like Nicoli Strickland, a high school student aspiring to become a hairstylist.
