Positive School Climates
Positive School Climate and Well-Being teams play an important role in establishing learning environments where all students feel welcomed, safe, respected and that they belong. Historically this work has focused on broad strategies in bullying prevention and intervention that employ an approach that serves most of our students and families but more recently our practice has shifted to address the disparity that exists for certain identity groups who have been disproportionately and negatively impacted by higher incidents of bullying and discrimination.
In November, school and central staff participated in a full day of learning alongside Nicole Bonnie, a sought-after equity consultant who helps to bring transformative leadership and innovation to organizations. In taking the learning back to schools, classrooms and workplaces across the DDSB, staff teams are ensuring the work of establishing and maintaining positive school climates that promote well-being is grounded in an equity centred framework that serves our students and is responsive to their unique lived experiences.
