Support for Every Student

Inclusive Students Services (ISS) provides a wide variety of programs, services, and resources to support student learning and well-being.

ISS Impact Update

In a commitment to transparency and efficiency, a singular tool for sharing key impacts has been developed by the Inclusive Student Services (ISS) team. The Inclusive Student Services Impact Update, a series of highlights of ISS programs, services, and resources, has been launched for the 2023-2024 school year to be shared both internally to the organization and externally with the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) and the entire community. The ISS Impact Update is intended as an information tool for key information on a variety of topics throughout the school year as well as to provide direct, quoted impacted statements from students, families, and staff. Each volume, published monthly, is available on the DDSB website along with the Inclusive Student Services/Special Education Plan for 2023-2024.

Abilities Centre Partnership

Durham District School Board partners with the Abilities Centre to provide Therapeutic Recreation for students in many Practical Learning Program classrooms. Therapeutic Recreation utilizes functional intervention, education and recreation participation to improve well-being, physical and mental health as well as functional capacity for individuals. In addition to partnership within the school year, this free to families program supports students over the summer months, working to foster inclusion and resilience among high school students. In the summer of 2023, the Abilities Centre Therapeutic Recreation program supported 36 students in working towards goals, getting active, building skills, and connecting with peers.
